BLM "painting" tools 
Glass Micro pipette. This 5 cm long micro pipette is the optimal tool for "painting" of Mueller type BLMs.  It has smooth fire polished tip and can be cleaned with any solvent or sterilized in flame. PART # GMP-5
Teflon Brush While glass micropipette is a perfect tool sufficient in most cases for Mueller-Rudin  membrane formation, removal of the excess of lipids from a hole may not be easy in some cases.  For horizontal BLM, it can be done much easier using miniature Teflon "brush".  While it is not exactly "brush" but a flat Teflon sheet, it is in many aspects better than regular painters brush used for BLM "painting".  Most important, our brushes are made from chemically inert material so they can be easily washed with any solvent or sterilized at high temperature.  Brush consist of ~0.03 mm thick diamond shaped Teflon, hot-melt attached to a Teflon tube which is placed over a stainless steel syringe needle serving as a handle.  Each brush supplied with individual storage container. Micro injector holder.
Has standard 4 mm diameter 100 mm long stainless steel rod for mounting in almost any micro manipulator. Can hold one or two glass capillaries 0.6 - 2 mm in diameter.

Perfusion Apparatus.
This simple inexpensive device is designed for manual solution exchange in the BLM cell.  Since plungers of two syringes are connected with polymer coated wire, the volume injected into the cell is equal to the volume taken out.  Designed to work with 10-12 cc syringes but can be easily modified for use with other syringes from 1 to 15 cc.
Dimensions: 210 x 70 mm ~= 8" x 3" (base plate).




This compact but informative brochure contain all the essential information needed to set  up planar bilayer workstation and begin experimentation in shortest possible time.  A "must have" for the beginners but even experienced researchers may find some useful information.

This Ultrasonic Cleaner is compact, reliable and can do cleaning job as well as more expensive devices.  We recommend them for cleaning heavily contaminated BLM chambers, teflon partitions, and other small parts that heed cleaning on hard to access surfaces. While we did not test cleaners ability to make 30nm liposomes, they are suitable for basic lipid re-suspension, which is a part of several vesicle preparation techniques.  UC-1A require 120V AC , UC-1E is for 220 V AC.

HamiltonTM Syringes
These syringes are perfect for adding small volume of solution to BLM chambers.  Since they are much small, it is often more convenient to use them instead of  than any automatic pipettes in a tight space around BLM chamber.  Commonly used sizes of 10 ul and 50 ul are available

Precision Resistors
These parts are useful for testing or calibration of electrophysiological amplifiers.  Commonly used 1000 & 100 mOhm, 1%  are available
