Electrodes -- Electrode Chlorinator -- Electrode Holders -- Electrode storage container

Electrodes
EAG-01 - Non-polarizing electrodes specially designed for BLM applications.  Active element consist of a thick (1-2 mm in diameter) layer of Ag/AgCl powder around 0.25 mm silver wire. Will never need re-chlorination and lasts up to several years under normal usage.  Wire is soldered to 1 mm gold-plated male connector allowing direct insertion into inputs of BBA-01A or other amlifier headstages.  Connection is insulated with silicone rubber polymer.  Fit in standard pipette tip which must be filled with agarose gel and KCl solution before use.

EAG-01P-  A pair of EAG-01 electrodes. Completely assembled, filled with 0.2 M KCl and 2% agarose, electrically balanced, tested and ready for use.

EAG-02 -  1 mm diameter silver wire electrodes.  Consist of 50 mm of pure silver wire partly encapsulated into plastic cylinder that fit into standard pipette tip.  ~10 mm long wire end out of the tip serve as a male connector.  If necessary, part of wire that is inside the tip can be flattened to increase the area of contact with solution.  These electrodes need chlorination before you start using them and may be re-chlorinated many times.

AT-02- Replacement agarose filled tips.  Shipped in a tube with 0.2 M KCl solution.

EW-01 - Set of extension wires for connection with remotely placed amplifier headstage.   Consist of two flexible wires 5 cm (2") and 15 cm (6") long for signal and ground electrodes.  Each wire has 1 mm  male connector at one end and 1 mm female connector on the other end.  Suitable for both BBA-xx and Axon amplifier headstages.
FC- 1  - Spare Female Connector, 1 mm diam.
MC-1 - Spare Male Connector, 1 mm diam.

Electrode Chlorinator.
If you are making your own AgCl covered electrodes from silver wire, you may find our compact electrode chlorinator much more convenient than system you currently use.  Two modifications are available.  Both have 1 mm gold plated connectors for electrodes, and switch that allow selection between 0.2 or 1 mA current *.  ECL-2A has an internal 9V battery that is sufficient for several hundreds hours of work.  Low battery (<6.5V) indicator will show when battery need replacement. ECL-2B is similar to ECL-2A but, in addition to the battery, it has external power conector that allow unlimited usage of the device without taking care of battery replacement.
Battery, wall transformer and a brief manual are included.

* - Short circuit current for fresh 9V battery. Actual current is lower, and dependent on selected KCl concentration and age of the battery.

Electrode Holders
If direct mounting of electrodes on a head stage is not possible, an additional electrode holders are required.  Different BLM Cells require different kinds of electrode holders.  Top left photo shows aluminum electrode holder (Part # EH-1) designed to hold a pair of electrodes on a support stand assembled from the standard ½” mounting posts.  It has ¼-20 tpi thread for axial mounting, and 6.5 mm hole for side mounting to a post.  Photo in the center, shows EH-2 electrode holder suitable for use with three compartment BC-30D cell.  L-shaped plastic holder is mounted on a 4 mm diameter, 80 mm (~3") long stainless steel rod (included) and can be fixed at different height using M4 screw.  Top right photo, show a pair of EH-3A electrode holders we recommend for BCH-1  horizontal cell.  This holder consist of a magnetic base, and plastic electrode holders attached to a steel ball that is magnetically attached to the base. Base have threaded hole for mounting to microscope stage, and freely rotating ball joint permit easy adjustment of the electrode position.  All holders are designed for mounting of EAG-01 type electrodes but can be easily modified to hold other electrode types.

Electrode storage container.  This simple inexpensive container is useful for keeping electrodes in a good working condition between experiments.  It is actually a small (25x25x18 mm) plastic box, with two small holes in the top cover that can be filled with KCl solution used for electrode storage.  Small area of holes do not allow solution to evaporate quickly, so you can leave electrodes in it for at least two weeks and not to worry that they will dry.
